Parent Coaching
Parenting a young-adult with attentional, learning, and behavioral challenges adds complexity to the universal task of nurturing a healthy, confident, and self-aware individual. Many well-meaning parents may not fully understand how their approach impacts their child, particularly when managing the inherent struggles of ADHD. Parents often have limited awareness of how profoundly ADHD challenges can affect learning, motivation, and behavior.
This limited awareness can unintentionally make it harder for parents to support their child effectively and may unintentionally increase their child’s challenges.
Some parents of children with ADHD need education, support, and effective strategies to help their children navigate academic, social, and other aspects of life. Discovering their child's diagnosis can be overwhelming, leaving them with little time or patience to absorb the extensive information provided by doctors and therapists. As essential guides in their children's development, especially in areas like emotional regulation and executive functioning, parents need to recognize their pivotal role and understand how to foster internal regulation and motivation.
Most parents rely on love, logic, and instinct in their parenting journey. However, they may not realize how assumptions, expectations, and communication styles can inadvertently hinder rather than enhance their support for their child. It's crucial for parents to receive the support and resources necessary to learn effective tools and strategies while managing their own anxieties. By focusing on the parent as the primary client, a Parent Coach can help build their confidence and equip them with the skills needed to effectively nurture their unique child.
